Southwest Michigan teams deliver dominant performances while northeast Indiana closes its regular season with dramatic finishes.
The Friday night lights were shining brightly across Michigan and Indiana on October 16, with high school football teams delivering everything from commanding victories to nail-biting finishes as the postseason draws closer.
In Southwest Michigan, several programs made strong statements during Week 8, the second-to-last week of the regular season. Across the state line, northeast Indiana teams completed Week 9 with sectional tournament competition approaching.

Michigan: Marshall, Edwardsburg and Portage Central Make Statements
Marshall delivered one of the area’s convincing victories, defeating Coldwater 45–7. The Redhawks’ result added to a weekend filled with impressive performances throughout southern Michigan.
Portage Central continued its strong season with a 56–14 victory over Mattawan. The Mustangs improved to 7–1, reinforcing their position heading into the final regular-season weekend.
Edwardsburg also produced an explosive offensive performance, defeating Vicksburg 59–27. The Eddies’ 59-point outing was among the highest totals recorded in the Kalamazoo-area scoreboard.
Paw Paw rolled past Three Rivers 50–7, while Niles shut out Plainwell 56–0. Both results reflected the wide scoring margins that characterized much of the weekend.
Not every contest was one-sided. Parchment edged Lawton 41–34 in one of the area’s closer 11-player matchups.
In eight-player football, Mendon defeated Climax-Scotts 28–24, providing another tight finish during a crucial stage of the season.
Other notable Michigan results included St. Joseph’s 43–6 win over Kalamazoo Central, Constantine’s 49–7 victory against Delton Kellogg and Union City’s 20–0 shutout of Centreville.
Indiana: Snider Survives a One-Point Thriller
While Michigan programs prepared for their final regular-season games, Indiana teams were closing out Week 9.
One of northeast Indiana’s most dramatic finishes came when Fort Wayne Snider defeated Fort Wayne North Side 27–26. The one-point margin highlighted how little separated the two programs in their regular-season finale.
Huntington North delivered a decisive 38–0 shutout against New Haven, while Fort Wayne Northrop secured a 19–12 victory over Fort Wayne Wayne.
Adams Central was another convincing winner, defeating Woodlan 44–7.
Elsewhere, Carroll defeated Fort Wayne Bishop Luers 23–6, East Noble shut out Bellmont 47–0, and South Adams beat Southern Wells 49–8.
These results offer a final snapshot of the teams’ regular-season form as Indiana’s tournament takes center stage.
The Postseason Picture
The two states now face slightly different calendars.
Michigan’s 11-player football programs have one regular-season week remaining before district tournament action begins October 30. The eight-player tournament also begins its regional phase October 30.
In Indiana, sectional tournament games for Classes 1A through 5A begin October 23, with the state’s official brackets determining each team’s opening opponent and route forward.
The final scores from October 16 provide momentum and talking points, but tournament success will ultimately depend on how teams perform when elimination games begin.
What Comes Next
For Southwest Michigan, the final regular-season weekend presents one last opportunity for teams to strengthen their postseason position, finish on a high note or close the season with a memorable performance.
For northeast Indiana, the focus turns directly toward sectional football, where regular-season records and scoring margins take a back seat to surviving and advancing.
Final Score 360 will continue following Michigan and Indiana high school football through the postseason, highlighting regional results, key matchups and teams pursuing championship opportunities.
