Hastings’ Season Ends in 49-44 Playoff Shootout Against Lakeshore
STEVENSVILLE, Mich. — Hastings and Stevensville Lakeshore combined for 93 points Friday, October 30, but the Saxons came up five short in a 49-44 Michigan Division 4 district semifinal defeat.
The game featured offense from both sides. Lakeshore led 14-8 after the first quarter and 28-16 at halftime, but Hastings continued to answer and added 14 points in each of the final two quarters.
Hastings closed the deficit with a determined second-half performance, scoring 28 points after the break. Lakeshore matched the Saxons with 21 second-half points, enough to preserve its early advantage and advance.
The loss left Hastings with a 7-3 record. Lakeshore improved to 8-1 and earned a November 6 matchup against Grand Rapids South Christian, which eliminated Marshall 63-27 in another district semifinal.
For Hastings, the final score illustrates both the team’s offensive firepower and the challenge of overcoming a first-half deficit in the playoffs. The Saxons continued scoring through the fourth quarter but ran out of opportunities to complete the comeback.
