ORLANDO, Fla. — The UCF Knights delivered one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 college football season Saturday, October 24, defeating No. 2 BYU 39-31 in double overtime.
The victory marked UCF’s first win over an Associated Press top-five opponent and ended BYU’s undefeated start to the season.
Quarterback Keyone Jenkins led the Knights with a season-high 293 passing yards and four total touchdowns, including three through the air and one rushing.
A Game That Refused to End
BYU entered the matchup with one of the nation’s strongest rushing attacks, averaging nearly 224 yards per game. UCF’s defense limited the Cougars to 116 rushing yards, forcing them to rely more heavily on their passing game.
The Knights held a 17-14 halftime advantage after Jenkins directed an 11-play, 78-yard touchdown drive in the closing moments of the second quarter.
Jenkins added a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, helping UCF regain a 24-21 advantage.
The teams eventually reached overtime tied at 24.
Knights Answer in Overtime
BYU scored first in overtime when Bear Bachmeier connected with Legend Glasker for a touchdown.
UCF immediately responded as Jenkins found Josh Derry for a touchdown on the Knights’ first offensive play, tying the score at 31.
The second overtime produced the game’s decisive sequence.
After BYU appeared to stop UCF, a roughing-the-kicker penalty extended the Knights’ possession.
Jenkins capitalized by throwing a four-yard touchdown pass to Grayson Brousseau. He then connected with Tyren Hornes for a successful two-point conversion, giving UCF a 39-31 advantage.
BYU moved inside the UCF 10-yard line on its final possession but failed to score, securing the Knights’ historic victory.
Jenkins Earns Conference Recognition
The performance earned Jenkins Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors, along with recognition as a Manning Star of the Week and a Davey O’Brien Great 8 selection.
His ability to respond under pressure was particularly important during the late second-quarter drive and both overtime possessions.
What the Victory Means
The result provides UCF with a defining victory in its Big 12 era and demonstrates the program’s ability to compete against nationally ranked opponents.
For BYU, the defeat ends its unbeaten season and creates additional pressure in the conference championship race.
For the Knights, the challenge now becomes building on their historic performance rather than allowing it to remain an isolated upset.
Final Score: UCF 39, No. 2 BYU 31 (2OT).
